SCHONLEIN HENOCH PURPURA
(allergic or anaphylatoid vasculitis)
1. Characterized by:
-
raised purpuric lesions that itch or bite, subcutaneous edema, polyarthritis,
GI Sx including bleeding, & acute glomerulonephritis.
2. Treatment:
-
Bed rest & avoidance of aspirin & phenacetin.
-
Corticosteroids, azathioprin, & cytoxan for the acute nephritis showed
no evidence of benefit.
-
Antihistamines & corticosteroids for the skin eruption showed no clear
benefit.
